Fine Line vs Blackwork

Fine line work uses a single or tight grouping of needles to lay delicate, consistent lines. It reads as drawing on skin: quiet, precise, and at its best at small to medium scale.

Blackwork leans on mass rather than line. Shape, silhouette and negative space do the work, which means it stays legible from across a room and tends to hold its structure for decades.

Neither is more durable by nature. Fine line ages well when it is placed thoughtfully and kept out of high-friction areas; blackwork ages well when the saturation is even and the healing is patient.
